We must do better than this! Liberal Democrats call on Councils to get together and solve problem of icy pavements.11.31.11pm GMT Wed 10th Feb 2010 Penrith and The Border LIberal Democrats are calling on Cumbria County Council to resolve the question of who should be clearing pavements in our area. The County Council are only committed to clearing 4 Penrith pavements - all the others reamain uncleared no matter what the weather. Many Town Councils are willing to take on this work but require assurances that they will not be liable if someone slips and falls. Parliamentary election candidate Peter Thornton says: "Its the responsibility of the County Council to sort this one out. As County Councillor for Kirkby Stephen I will be using my influence to demand that this is looked at before the next bout of bad weather - which could come at any time.
